In perhaps the strangest election-day strategy of them all, a poll-goer caught disgraced VA attorney general candidate Jay Jones lazily kicking at a four-legged friend outside a Virginia polling station.

It’s unclear what Jay Jones was thinking since he apparently viewed the act as a natural, friendly interaction with man’s best friend. Watch in the video below as he makes small talk with a resident before gently kicking at the dog’s rear as it walked off before bending down to give it an awkward slap on the back.

Jay Jones, born Jerrauld “Jay” Jones in Norfolk in 1989, is a Democratic attorney and former Virginia House of Delegates member for the 89th District (2018–2022) who is the party’s 2025 nominee for attorney general against Republican incumbent Jason Miyares.

His campaign has been shadowed by resurfaced 2022 text messages advocating violence toward then-House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his family.
