Ethics
A small and independent team runs Nerve News. Our work is opinionated by nature, but the factual basis of everything we publish is held to strict scrutiny. Wherever possible, sources are cited in a form accessible to the reader.
As a matter of ethics, we pledge to tell the whole truth, or as near to the truth as we can reasonably determine, without omission. While the subjects we cover may be controversial, our conduct in addressing them will meet the basic expectations of civil society.
We pledge that our reporting is driven by the public interest, not personal bias or private gain. Accuracy is our highest priority. Errors will be avoided at all costs and corrected directly upon discovery.
Sources will be attributed whenever possible. Where anonymity is requested, we will protect the identity of those sources without exception. If information comes from an unnamed source, we will clearly indicate its provenance and only use such material when it is both reliable and necessary.
Attribution will be strictly observed. Our reporting draws from a wide range of material. We measure our work not by political alignment but by integrity—by whether we tell the full story, whether we avoid misleading or omitting, and whether we are transparent about our perspective and interests.
As an independent outlet, we may seek reader support. Under no circumstances will donations or funding influence our editorial standards or compromise our independence.
This policy stands in the spirit of Eugene Meyer’s 1935 editorial principles. His successors have long abandoned those principles. We revive them here, in practice, not platitude.
