Hawk Newsome leads denigrating chanters through Times Square
Hawk Newsome, co-founder of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York, leading a group of protesters through New York City, chanting derogatory remarks against Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist who was assassinated on September 10, 2025. The protest occurred on September 18, 2025, in Times Square.

“F— Charlie Kirk! F— Charlie Kirk! Racist bastard! P-ss on your ashes! Spit on your grave! I’ll never be a slave,” Newsome shouted through the streets while his followers echoed each sentence.
Ostensibly, the protesters were demanding justice for Demartravion “Trey” Reed’s death in Mississippi. Reed, whose death has been ruled a suicide, was found hanging from a tree at Delta State University on Monday. (His family has retained infamous attorney Ben Crump.)
Earlier this year, Newsome made headlines when he was recorded saying that New York needed “black vigilantes” and called for the killing of white people in a video uploaded by the late Charlie Kirk to his social media page.
BLM activist Hank Newsome says "we need some black vigilantes" and calls for killing white people:

People want to jump up and choke us and kill us for being loud. How about we do the same when they attempt to oppress us,” Newsome said at the time.
Black Lives Matter of Greater New York operates as an independent organization that uses the BLM name but is not affiliated with the national network or its recognized chapters. The official BLM network maintains a separate New York City chapter (BLMNYC), which is distinct from Greater New York.
Walter “Hawk” Newsome founded the group alongside sister Chivona Newsome.
