Trump Cracks Down on Ideological AI
President Donald J. Trump signed a sweeping Executive Order today that prohibits the federal government from procuring large language models (LLMs) that incorporate so-called “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) standards, calling such ideology a threat to accuracy, objectivity, and national trust in artificial intelligence systems.
New Procurement Standards for AI
The order requires all federal agencies to purchase only AI models that meet strict “Unbiased AI Principles,” focused on truth-seeking and ideological neutrality. These principles demand that any AI used by the government produce factually accurate outputs, avoid partisan programming, and explicitly reject frameworks such as critical race theory, transgenderism, unconscious bias, intersectionality, and systemic racism.
Dismantling DEI in Federal Systems
“We will terminate every diversity, equity, and inclusion program across the entire Federal government,” Trump declared, signaling the continuation of his broader effort to dismantle DEI-aligned structures in federal operations.
Citing examples from current AI systems, the White House described how some popular models altered the race and sex of historical figures like the Pope, America’s Founding Fathers, and even Vikings to comply with DEI parameters. Others allegedly refused to generate content celebrating white individuals or prioritized gender identity over factual clarity in hypothetical scenarios involving national security.
OMB to Enforce New Standards
The Executive Order empowers the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), working alongside procurement and science agencies, to issue implementation guidance within 120 days. That guidance will permit vendors to disclose ideological biases embedded in training prompts or documentation but avoids mandating the release of sensitive technical data like model weights.
Agencies will be required to insert compliance clauses into all new contracts involving LLMs. If a vendor’s model violates the order’s neutrality rules, the contract can be terminated, and the vendor will be liable for decommissioning costs.
Broader Anti-DEI Agenda
The order builds on a series of actions taken by the Trump Administration to secure American leadership in artificial intelligence. Earlier this year, Trump signed Executive Orders focused on dismantling DEI mandates in federal contracting, overhauling DEI-related hiring and training protocols at the Department of Defense and the FAA, removing DEI from the Foreign Service, and restoring discipline standards in public schools. Additional orders issued today promote the rapid expansion of American AI exports and accelerate domestic data infrastructure development.
“AI must serve America, not radical ideology,” the President said. “This order ensures that the federal government will never become a customer of dishonest, politically manipulated artificial intelligence.”
Implementation Timeline and Exceptions
With the order now in effect, agencies have 90 days following OMB guidance to bring current and future AI procurement practices into compliance. National security systems may be exempted when appropriate, but all other use cases will be held to the new standard.
The move is expected to draw sharp criticism from the legacy tech industry and civil rights organizations, but Trump allies argue the public is demanding more trustworthy and politically neutral AI tools.
“Americans deserve truth from their government, not woke hallucinations,” one senior official told Nerve News. “This is about restoring reality.”
The Executive Order, signed today at the White House, becomes one of the most aggressive government actions against AI bias in the world.
