Some are finding it a bit exasperating and that’s understandable. We certainly don’t think that acronyms help at all, either so we’ve decided to help un-muddy the waters for those trying to understand three of the most frequently used acronyms in this discussion.
What it is
AGI: Artificial General Intelligence is arguably the level of artificial intelligence we’ve achieved so far: intelligence equal to a human and capable of suitably executing a wide variety of tasks.
ASI: Artificial Superintelligence would be a hypothetical intelligence that was magnitudes greater than the total sum of all of mankind’s specialists across all domains and disciplines. In theory, this would be uncontrollable and could render mankind as the second rung on the food chain.
RSI: Recursive Self-Improvement is when a model can research, develop, and train its own successor, and that successor can, in turn, train its own successor and so on. This has not been fully achieved and it is unclear whether it is possible to achieve it.
P(doom): The probability (P) that RSI or ASI will result in catastrophic incidents or an existential threat to humanity.
