Israeli police forcefully dispersed an antiwar protest in Tel Aviv on Saturday, arresting at least 17 activists. The demonstration, attended by hundreds, condemned the ongoing U.S.-Israeli military campaign against Iran and highlighted the Israeli public's shifting stance toward the conflict.
Falling Support for War
Alon-Lee Green, a prominent Israeli peace activist and organizer of the protest, stated that public enthusiasm for the war has waned dramatically in recent weeks. ‘The promised quick and decisive engagement has failed to materialize,’ Green said. He spoke from a courthouse where he is pursuing a restraining order against right-wing extremists who have targeted him at his home.
‘The Israeli public was sold a false promise of swift victory,’ Green remarked. ‘Now, the reality is setting in, and people are questioning the cost.’
Rights Violations Alleged
Protest organizers have accused both Israeli law enforcement and right-wing groups of infringing on their constitutional right to protest. The crackdown has drawn criticism from human rights organizations, who question the government's commitment to democratic principles amid escalating tensions.
As the war continues to strain Israeli society, the growing antiwar movement underscores a deepening divide over the nation's foreign policy priorities. Critics argue that the conflict serves neither Israel's nor America's interests, calling for a reevaluation of the alliance.
