Enbridge, the Calgary-based energy giant with a $120 billion market cap, is doubling down on its role as North America’s leading energy deliverer. CEO Greg Ebel, a dual Canadian-American citizen, is leveraging the company’s expansive pipeline network to solidify U.S. and Canada’s energy dominance amid the AI boom and rising Middle East tensions.
Scaling Up Energy Delivery
Enbridge, often referred to as the 'FedEx of energy,' operates across 43 U.S. states and eight Canadian provinces, moving nearly one-third of North American oil and 20% of U.S. natural gas. Its Mainline pipeline network is the top exporter of Canadian oil into the U.S., while its Texas Ingleside hub leads U.S. oil exports globally. The company is also expanding infrastructure to support liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals along the Gulf Coast and building Canada’s West Coast LNG capabilities.
'We want to be the first choice for energy delivery in North America and beyond,' Ebel told Fortune. 'The Middle East conflict highlights the security of North American energy supplies, which is a significant advantage for us.'
Powering the AI Revolution
Enbridge is increasingly focused on servicing hyperscale data centers operated by tech giants like Google, Amazon, and Meta. The company is building gas pipelines and solar farms to meet the energy demands of AI infrastructure. Last year, Enbridge announced a massive solar farm campus near San Antonio to power a Meta data center complex, alongside projects like the Sequoia solar farm in Texas for Toyota and AT&T.
A Diplomatic Player
Ebel’s background in Canadian government and the World Bank has positioned him as a key liaison between the White House and Canadian leadership. His efforts aim to strengthen North American energy cooperation while navigating geopolitical challenges. As Enbridge continues to expand its reach, Ebel emphasizes a strategy of steady growth: 'You’re not going for home runs; you’re going for singles and doubles.'
With its diverse portfolio of renewables, natural gas, and oil infrastructure, Enbridge is poised to secure North America’s energy future in an increasingly volatile global landscape.
