Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard issued a direct threat on Monday to target Middle Eastern electrical plants that supply power to US military bases, escalating tensions in the region. The warning follows President Donald Trump’s ultimatum to Iran regarding the Strait of Hormuz, which Tehran has effectively blocked with military action against commercial shipping.
The Iranian statement, broadcast on state television, declared that any attack on Iran’s power infrastructure would be met with retaliation against regional power plants and economic assets tied to American interests. The Revolutionary Guard specifically referenced Israel as an “occupying regime” and emphasized its readiness to carry out the threat, stating, “Do not doubt that we will do this.”
“What we have done is to announce our decision that if the power plants are attacked, Iran will retaliate by targeting the power plants of the occupying regime and the power plants of regional countries that supply electricity to US bases, as well as the economic, industrial and energy infrastructures in which Americans have shares.”
This latest provocation comes as Trump warns of US military action against Iranian power plants within 48 hours if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. The standoff underscores growing instability in the region and the potential for broader conflict as Iran continues to challenge US and allied interests.
