A recent Fox News national survey released Thursday indicates a growing discontent among American voters, who are increasingly disillusioned with the direction of the country. Nearly 64% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with how things are going in the U.S., marking the highest disapproval rate during President Trump's second term. This sentiment reflects a broader pessimism about the economic outlook and dissatisfaction with national leadership.
Economic Concerns Take Center Stage
Economic issues remain a primary driver of voter dissatisfaction. The poll shows that 75% of voters believe the economy is in poor shape, a four-point increase since last month. Personal financial assessments are equally grim, with 46% reporting that they are falling behind. This economic strain is further highlighted by 61% of respondents stating they could not miss more than two paychecks without facing financial difficulties.
The issue environment in 2026 has almost completely flipped from 2022 and 2024. Voters don’t think either side has a plan, of course, but since the GOP is in charge, they shoulder the blame.
Leadership Out of Touch with Public Concerns
A majority of voters feel disconnected from Washington leadership. According to the survey, 60% believe the White House is out of touch with people like them, while 61% and 58% hold similar views of congressional Republicans and Democrats, respectively. This sentiment cuts across party lines, with a quarter of Democrats and Republicans viewing their respective party's lawmakers as disconnected. Additionally, half of non-MAGA Republicans think the White House is out of touch.
President Trump's approval ratings reflect the broader dissatisfaction. His overall approval stands at 41%, with 59% disapproving—the highest disapproval rating of either term. Negative ratings extend across key issues, including inflation (28% approve), the economy (34% approve), and healthcare (36% approve). His strongest issue, border security, remains evenly split at 50% approval.
Partisan Skepticism on Economic Solutions
Neither major party has convinced voters it has a clear plan to address economic concerns. The poll reveals that 68% believe the Democratic Party lacks a clear strategy for lowering prices, while 70% say the same about the GOP. Over 40% of respondents believe neither party has a plan, underscoring widespread skepticism about Washington's ability to deliver solutions.
