President Donald Trump has named David Sacks, the White House's AI and crypto czar, as co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). The council, established through an executive order on Wednesday, aims to strengthen U.S. leadership in science and technology by bringing together industry leaders to advise the president.
Sacks will continue his role as AI and crypto czar while taking on a broader portfolio to oversee critical tech issues. 'David will always be his crypto and AI czar, but to the admin more broadly, this new role will allow him to advise on a broader range of critical tech issues,' a senior adviser to the president stated.
Expanding U.S. Tech Leadership
The council will include up to 24 members, featuring prominent executives such as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison. Sacks has been instrumental in shaping the Trump administration's tech policies, particularly in artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency.
'We’ve accomplished a lot in the first year, but the President wants to keep the pedal to the metal on everything tech. That’s exactly what we will do,' Sacks told FOX Business.
Key Policy Shifts
Under Sacks' guidance, the administration has rolled back prior restrictions on emerging technologies and expanded federal oversight. Trump signed multiple executive orders to revoke cautious approaches previously adopted under the Biden administration. These include establishing a national framework for AI regulation and creating a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and U.S. Digital Asset Stockpile.
With these changes, Trump reaffirms his commitment to accelerating technological innovation and strengthening America's global position in AI and cryptocurrency, aiming to eliminate what he describes as 'cumbersome regulation.'
