During a rally in Florida on Friday, President Donald Trump likened the US Navy’s actions in the ongoing Iranian blockade to piracy, praising the operation as a lucrative venture for American interests. Trump detailed the seizure of a ship and its cargo, including oil, as part of the tit-for-tat measures between the US and Iran.
‘We land on top of it and we took over the ship. We took over the cargo, took over the oil. It’s a very profitable business,’ Trump stated.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, with the US enforcing a blockade against Iranian ports in response to Tehran’s continued resistance to American sanctions and influence in the region. Critics argue that such actions risk further escalation, while supporters frame the move as a necessary assertion of US dominance.
The seizure is part of broader US efforts to curb Iran’s economic capabilities, particularly its oil exports, which have been a focal point of sanctions imposed by the Trump administration. The blockade reflects ongoing tensions between the two nations, with neither side showing signs of backing down.
