Trump’s Filibuster Call Escalates Senate Stalemate

President Donald Trump intensified his push for Senate Republicans to abolish the filibuster on Thursday, urging the party to take aggressive action to pass critical legislation currently stalled in Congress. In a post on Truth Social, Trump called for an end to the filibuster, emphasizing the need to move forward with the SAVE America Act and resolve funding delays for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

"There comes a time when you must do what should have been done a long time ago, and something which the Lunatic Democrats will do on day one, if they ever get the chance," Trump wrote. "TERMINATE THE FILIBUSTER, and get our airports, and everything else, moving again."

The GOP-led Senate remains deadlocked over DHS funding, with Democrats demanding ICE reforms as a condition for support. Meanwhile, the SAVE America Act has faced unanimous Democratic opposition, requiring 60 votes to overcome the filibuster—a threshold Republicans have failed to meet. Trump also endorsed a "talking filibuster" proposal, which would force Democrats to continuously debate to block legislation, but Republican leadership has resisted changing Senate rules.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has been accused by the White House of obstructing DHS funding, which has caused operational disruptions at airports as TSA employees quit due to unpaid wages. Trump suggested Schumer might seek a deal with Republicans, but urged GOP senators to abolish the filibuster regardless, stating, "whether he makes a deal or not!!!"
