A cargo ship near the Strait of Hormuz reported an attack by multiple small craft on Sunday, according to the British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center. This marks at least two dozen attacks in the area since the Iran war began. All crew members aboard the unidentified northbound cargo ship were unharmed after the incident off Sirik, Iran, east of the strait.

Iran's Assertion on Strait Control

Iranian officials have repeatedly claimed control over the Strait of Hormuz, stating that ships not affiliated with the U.S. or Israel can pass if they pay a toll. This stance directly challenges international law guaranteeing freedom of navigation. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, the first reported in the area since April 22.

US-Iran Peace Proposals

Tehran is currently reviewing the U.S. response to its latest peace proposal, as reported by Iran's judiciary Mizan news agency. 'At this stage, we have no nuclear negotiations,' said Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei. Iran's 14-point proposal calls for lifting U.S. sanctions, ending the naval blockade of Iranian ports, withdrawing U.S. forces from the region, and ceasing all hostilities, including Israel's operations in Lebanon.

'Iran stands firm on Strait of Hormuz,' declared Ali Nikzad, Iran's deputy parliament speaker, during a visit to port facilities on the strait.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the military to 'shoot and kill' small Iranian boats deploying mines in the strait. The fragile three-week ceasefire appears to be holding, though Trump has indicated further strikes remain a possibility.
