The unveiling occurs just days before the company's heavily anticipated initial public offering on the Shanghai stock exchange, a listing reportedly oversubscribed by retail investors by a factor of 5,000 and valuing the firm near $9 billion.

The cold sprinting data underscores a painful reality for American industrial competitiveness. While US-based firms continue to iterate on prototypes, Unitree has already shipped roughly 6,000 humanoid robots in the first half of the year, according to business intelligence data. Chinese rivals are rapidly commercializing, carving out dominance in a sector that Morgan Stanley analysts speculate could reach $7.5 trillion by 2050. American workers and manufacturers are watching a strategic next-generation industry take shape entirely outside their control.

Production Scale vs. Aspiration

The gap between American aspiration and Chinese output is stark. Tesla's Optimus humanoid robot remains pre-production, with a tentative timeline placing assembly at the end of 2026. Other domestic startups are offering only promises of limited deliveries. By contrast, Unitree already hawks a catalog of functional machines, from the $13,500 dancing G1 to a massive $650,000 mecha unit. The Superman robot itself was purportedly developed in a mere three months, underscoring a breakneck pace American firms reliant on quarterly earnings calls would struggle to match.

American robotics firms are further handicapped by Washington's own regulatory apparatus. Last month, the Federal Communications Commission instituted a ban on some new foreign-made advanced robots.
