A 25-year-old Mexican national, Ernesto Lopez-Gomez, is facing charges for a fatal hit-and-run collision that killed 62-year-old Christopher Babcock in North Carolina. Lopez-Gomez, who entered the U.S. illegally, has been detained by ICE and is being held on a $2,000,000 secured bond.
Details of the Incident
On March 11, around 7:45 p.m., Babcock was riding his motorcycle on U.S. 13 near Moye Turnage Road when Lopez-Gomez allegedly turned left in front of him, causing a collision. Lopez-Gomez fled the scene, and Babcock succumbed to his injuries.
'The Biden Administration’s catch and release policies let this criminal into our community, and now a widow is mourning the loss of her husband,' said Lauren Bis, Acting Assistant Secretary at DHS.
Impact on the Community
Babcock, remembered for his kindness and humor, leaves behind a wife, two stepchildren, and a sister. His obituary highlighted his dedication to family and community.
This incident marks the second hit-and-run involving an illegal immigrant this week, raising concerns about border policies and their impact on public safety.
