The contract, structured as an Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreement, was executed in under 12 months, a pace of procurement almost unheard of for a system of this scale.
Speed Over Slide Decks
The rapid timeline signals a structural shift in Pentagon acquisition, directly benefiting American defense readiness. Code Metal CEO Peter Morales noted the urgency. “I have never seen them move this fast,” he said, adding that initial operating capability funding of $17 million was quickly followed by the full award. The company’s core technology builds an AI-powered software translation layer, allowing legacy, validated military code to operate on modern hardware without being rewritten. For the American warfighter, this means sophisticated wargaming analyses that once took months can be completed in days.

Code Metal, which already counts Raytheon, L3Harris, and Boeing among its partners and clients, sees the traditional contractors not as obstacles but as clients needing speed in the AI domain.
