Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner issued a stark warning to federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents during a press conference at Philadelphia International Airport. Krasner, a progressive prosecutor backed by left-wing billionaire George Soros, asserted that any ICE agent committing crimes within city jurisdiction would face prosecution, regardless of their federal status.
"You commit crimes within the jurisdiction that is the city and county of Philadelphia, I prosecute you," Krasner declared. He emphasized that even presidential intervention would not shield agents from legal consequences. "No, I don’t take a phone call from the president saying, ‘Let them go.’ No, the president cannot pardon you. I’ll say it again. The president cannot pardon you."
"And yes, I will put you in handcuffs and I will put you in a courtroom and, if necessary, I will put you in a jail cell if you decide to make the terrazzo floor of this airport, anything like what you did in the streets of Minneapolis," Krasner continued.
Krasner’s statements follow ICE’s deployment to assist the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) during a partial shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security. His remarks also reference the January 7 shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, which Krasner previously vowed to investigate.
Critics argue Krasner’s focus on ICE detracts from Philadelphia’s rising crime rates, which saw 1,000 homicides in 20 months. State legislators launched an impeachment effort against him in 2022, citing his handling of public safety. Meanwhile, Krasner has provided legal aid to immigrants accused of violent crimes, often seeking to prevent their deportation for offenses such as rape and aggravated assault.
