President Trump abruptly ended a wide-ranging interview with NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday after defending controversial proposals, including potential taxpayer-funded payouts for individuals prosecuted over the January 6 Capitol riot and renewing threats of military action against Iran.
Jan. 6 Payouts
Trump argued that many individuals prosecuted for their roles in the January 6 unrest
'should be compensated' on a case-by-case basis, despite bipartisan pushback against a proposed $1.8 billion fund. He also criticized law enforcement, referring to
'crooked cops' and 'dirty cops', while claiming he was unsure about the future of the proposed fund.
Iran Military Threats
On Iran, Trump issued a stark warning, stating that U.S. military action could resume if nuclear negotiations do not progress
'fast enough'. He emphasized that without a deal, the U.S. would act
'very harshly'to address Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Trump also praised Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei for his involvement in negotiations, calling him
'more rational'than his predecessors.
Farmers Under Pressure
When questioned about rising fertilizer costs affecting American farmers, Trump dismissed concerns, asserting that
'farmers are doing very well'and would support higher costs as part of efforts to address Iran’s nuclear program. This stance comes amid ongoing trade disputes and drought conditions impacting the agricultural sector.
The interview concluded abruptly after Trump labeled NBC a
'one-sided crooked network'and declined to provide evidence supporting his election fraud claims.
