Thousands of US Marines and paratroopers are being deployed to the Middle East as diplomatic efforts to resolve tensions with Iran continue. The deployment includes Marines from the 31st and 11th expeditionary units aboard Navy amphibious ships, as well as approximately 2,000 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division.
Military Readiness Amid Diplomacy
The 82nd Airborne Division is tasked with deploying worldwide within 18 hours of notification and can execute parachute assaults, including on defended airfields, to prepare for further ground operations. This move comes as Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed the administration's belief that the US can achieve its aims without a ground war.
The administration remains committed to diplomatic solutions, but the deployment underscores the readiness to act if necessary.
